For Honor Review

Ubisoft has released the box of creativity to create a game that combines so different types of fighters. These are based on real warriors, but the story is completely fictionally. And we think that this game does not need more that a great background, when eight online players fight for points. But is this game better that it looks like at the first glance? Let’s find out.

We noticed very quickly, that this game is made for multiplayer-fights. And the game does not hide this. That means, that we unfortunately have to say, that we wished it would include a much better solo-campagne. And it also starts with a necessary online connection and end with a little bit boring tutorial called Story-Mode.

On the one hand we have to say, that there is no big story with no very different and interesting characters. Unfortunately, every level is just a trainings-match in which you learn the skills to start as a useful fighter into your multiplayer-battles. And this is the reason you only switch the nameless protagonists from time to time and the only funny fight are these, in which you fight against much stronger enemies. On the other hand FH_Launch_Screenshots_Dominion_Nobushi_PR_170217_4pm_CET_1487068940we have to say that we love the games sound, the synchronisation and the well detailed and great made cutscenes.

Please do not understand us wrong! THE MAIN GAME, FOR HONOR’S MULTIPLAYER IS FANTASTIC! We played this game from the first opportunity we had and noticed very quickly that the game is focused to get great PvP-experiences. And this also the reason we are not very Disappointed about the game’s singleplayer-mode. What we love is, that Ubisoft tried to integrate a new brand into this huge of world multiplayer games. The did not take something that was done. They created a new game with a new brand. And we can confirm, WELL DONE UBISOFT, WELL DONE! The center of the game is it’s fantastic battle system. What we love most about is that it does not need this quick and faked duels. Ubisoft have managed to create Exciting duels and to add some great ideas that helps that the battles are very varied.

What we also like is that the game’s control systems are simple and and extensive at the same time. At first you only have to move the stick in one direction, which is also the direction of how you defend  yourself and the direction, you want to move your next punch. You can see on the enemy’s movements in which direction FH_Launch_Screenshots_LawbringerVSNobushi_PR_170217_4pm_CET_1487068941he will move. You can also activate in the game’s menu some symbols, that shows you the position, the begin of the enemy’s attack and his movements.

It is possible to evade a hit by doing a step to the side or if you start punch at the right time. If you are doing the second one it is possible not only to evade the hit, you also can counter directly. Strong attacks can get through the enemy’s blocks. You also can push the enemies to open their block. If they stand then f.e. in front of a fire will this also hurt them. It is also possible to through them into an abyss. It is very important the you keep an eye on your fighters endurance.

What we also like is the different fighters with their different weapons. This also adds a variety to this game. The massive tanked warriors do a lot of damage, the Bumpers are allrounder, Assassins are agile and the FH_Launch_Screenshots_Tower_Ruins_Map_PR_170217_4pm_CET_1487068938Hybrids combine different skills. Every folk has only one warrior of each class. What we like is that Ubisoft already announced, they want to release new characters and maps every three month. We noticed mostly and very quickly at the time we fighted against other players in the small arenas. This is the thing For Honor is made for. Who will make the first hit? Who will counter it? There are not a lot but many actions and reactions at the same time. We like it that it is not only about quick reactions. We like it that things like the tactic and the timing are important, too. There are not only the PVP-duells. Players can also fight in teams against other players. The winner of one of this two fights can join the fight of his team-member. What we also like are the fighters equipments. It is for example possible to change value of a part of a weapon. This influence your attack and defend skills. All kind of equipments change one of the three characteristics. After each map you get new equipments. You can use or destroy them to use this materials to strengthen the parts of your equipment.

If you like something more chaotic you can also play the Deathmatch-Mode. In this you are a member of two players and fight against three other teams. In this mode you have to reach a certain points or similar like in the duels-mode, you have to eliminate the other three teams. What we also like is the mode you have to conquer different terrains. In this mode your team has to keep three Positions. In this mode are two things very interesting. Before you can conquer a place you have to kill all soldiers that are controlled by the AI. But the killing of enemy AI-troops is only a small part of this mode. While you are on your way to the next point you can additionally fight against other players. We like it that we get the feeling of being in the middle of huge battle in a movie. The other thing is, that in addition to get the 1000 points is to kill the other players to FH_PCGames_Screnshots_Close-up_01_1484068101win the match. Important is, that you can kill all enemies before they respawn. If they respawn they are still able to conquer some points back.

It is also important, how you combine your team. In addition to the fighters different attack and counter capabilities they also have twelfe different skills. You can choose four of them and play the free in the match. We are really excited about upcoming characters and if they fit in the games great balancing as it is now. And we are happy that we will see other maps in the near feature. The low number of maps is unfortunately one of only few weakness of this game. The positions you have to conquer have nearly the same distance on the maps. All in all we have unfortunately to say, that the game’s singleplayer is not that thing we expected. But we also have to say that we love the game’s multiplayer-mode. For Honor stands for two things: an unique, tactical combat-system and exciting multiplayer-battles. The PVP-fights catches us from the first moment. We could not wait to mess our skills with other players. We had a lot of fun to fight in the conquer-mode and to turn the game in the last moment. Yes, there are a few things that could be made better, but we like it very much that Ubisoft tried a complete new thing and to integrate a complete new brand. Give this game more than a chance, Ubisoft made a great job.
