Star Wars Battlefront Review

If the music starts, hundreds of blaster fires past you, AT-ATs unstoppable moving forward, Tie Fighters flying with their famous sounds above our heads, we found ourselves in a galaxy far far away. Not later than in the game’s intro we get up from our chairs and shout the Star Wars Theme through the whole office. Yes! The new Star Wars Battlefront is here and brings some spectacular moments with. The developer DICE offers in the new Star Wars game an atmosphere that is unmatched. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….thanks to Electronic Arts, jadoRendr testing Star Wars Battlefront for you.

Never before has been a Star Wars game staged the famous battles from the movies such bombastic like this game. We have the impression to be in the middle of the battles, sitting in a trenches on the frozen ice planet Star Wars Battlefront _4-17_SpeederHoth and to confront the overwhelming power of the Empire. Or to fight as a stormtrooper in the dense forest of Endor against an almost invisible Rebel-Army. We can conform that everything looks like in the movie. High-end textures create an almost photo-realistic look.

Even better than the graphics are the game’s sounds. Sure, every weapon and every vehicle sounds how it should sound according to the original film and the voice overs are great. And there are also spectacular moment if we hide ourself under the protector of an energy shield and hear all outside noises only muffled. Thanks to the great sound we can literally feel how the air been pushed away if a Thermal Imploder explodes beside us. We not only used you speakers to test the game’s sound. We also used our Logitech G633 Artemis Spectrum 7.1 Surround Gaming-Headset that has played the sounds really great. We can confirm that we are so fascinated by Battlefront that we can say that this game is a dream come true for every Star Wars fans. Behind this spectacular scenes is a polished multiplayer shooter hidden that isStar Wars Battlefront Modus Kampflaeuferangriff 02 made for the mass market, which unfortunately is not rich filled with great ideas and unfortunately also lack on content.

We missing the the Droid-Army of the Trade-Federation and the Republic’s clones. The new Battlefront deals exclusively with the battles between the Rebels and the Empire from the original movie-trilogy. We think that Dice and EA could keep the the contents of the new movies for the some Battlefront games in the future that has been already unofficially announced. They also minimized the single player as much as they could. If you take a look at the Battlefront Star Wars Battlefront _4-17_Shieldthat has been released in the year 2004, the game included two campaigns in which we played the movie’s story or conquered the galaxy in a huge star system for our fraction.

The latest Battlefront only offers A Hord-Mode for one or two players. The well known Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombie-Mode shows, how exciting and entertaining staged such a simple game in which you fight stronger getting waves of AI enemies can be. Unfortunately, Battlefront do not use the high number of potentials they have. There is no story, we do not use vehicles and it is not possible to upgrade the characters. Friends of single player campaigns will not have fun with this game. In addition to that we lost to play the missions with a friend very quickly. So we decided to play some Multiplayer-Battles.

Star Wars Battlefront Modus Kampflaeuferangriff 01What we love is the huge list of Multiplayer-Modes you can play. There are more than 11 of them. Some of them are standard modes like Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag or King of the Hill in which you play in small teams (between 6 up to 8 players). In addition to that there are no vehicles you can use. The whole Star-Wars-Action is hidden in other Battlefront MP-Modes.

For example in Heroes vs Villains. In this mode you fight against the Stars or Supervillain known from the Star-Wars-Universe including yourself as one of them. The Rebels are: The young Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia. The dark side is represented by Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine Bounty Hunter Boba Star-Wars-Battlefront_Boba-FettFett. All of them has their own special abilities. What we like is how easy it is to fight as Luke or Vader and to use their light saber. Just with an easy click you attack or defend attacks and blaster fire like a true Jedi. Leia and the Emperor are more defensive characters. They can heal from the distance, can put on shields but also fight very well if they have to. Han Solo and Boba Fett are characters that using the distance for their benefit. Thanks to the Boba’s jetpack you can attack enemies out of nowhere and Han Solo is an expert with his Blaster. Thanks to the different characteristics of this heroes and villains we had a lot of fun and varied battles. But we noticed very quickly that Han Solo’s Blater is too much overpowered. We hope that DICE get back to their desks and balance the Blaster.

The Fighter Squadron Mode offers a great atmosphere. 20 players fight in a huge air battle with X-Wings, Tie Fighters, A-Wings and Tie Interceptors. Some AI wingmen pushes the flair forward. Unfortunately, there are only maps for this mode that takes place near the ground, not in space or something special like close over the Death Star. There are also Heroes in this gameplay-mode. You pick up an special item you can fly Solo’s Millenium Falcon or Boba Fett’s Slave 1. Both ships are heavy armored thick and have more fire-power.

What we like, especially for beginners is, that it is very easy to flight this well known ships. The controls are extremely simple, the automatic targeting very helpful (we think a little bit too much). We can deviate target seeking missiles by doing risky maneuvers, but we are not realize them manually. It is just a click on a button. Star Wars Battlefront Modus Gefecht 01After such an action it is very annoying is that we only can repeat it after a cooldown. If meanwhile a rocket is locked on us, we get in big trouble. We think that EA should think about, if this mode and its controls is not too easy. You get frustrations if you just only hear the sound of being locked all the time.

We had the most fun with the Supremacy-Mode and the Walker Assault-Mode. In this modes you get the full Star Wars action with 40 Players on huge maps. In addition to that you can use here Heroes and vehicles. In the Supremacy-Mode Rebels and Imperials fight for the control of five key points. The Assault-Mode is a little bit more complex: Fight as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Star Wars Battlefront Modus Kampflaeuferangriff 03Or, side with the Empire and protect your Walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective. That means that you have to conquer and to hold communication point as a Rebel to help your Y-wing to find their targets. After the AI-controlled Y-Wings destroyed the AT-AT’s shields their are vulnerable for a short time. Than you have the opportunity to destroy them with the help of the Blasters bring them to fall by using a Snowspeeder. But players have to remember that it is not easy to use the Snowspeeder. They are slow, sluggish and a lovely target.

What we like is that DICE invest some work in the games balance since the Beta. Rebel’s orbitalstrikes and other power ups were too powerful/effective and it was very hard to destroy the AT-ATs. We think that the Dropzonebattles are now balanced, fair and exciting until the last minute. But we think that Han Solo’s Blaster is too OP, like we sad before.

We think that player will have more fun to play the empire’s troopers. If you play in this team you do not have to reach some additional goals to win. That means that you can concentrate you Blaster’s power on the Rebels. In addition to that, the Trooper have better vehicles. The Rebels can only use some turrets but the Stormtroopers can use their AT-STs or can use the AT-ATs guns. Unfortunately, the AT-ATs walking complete automatically, you can only use their weapons by picking up a power up.

We think that this concept do not fits quite in the action filled atmosphere but it help that players do not camp in the base to get their favourite vehicle. We like it. On the other hand, this power up system can’t be used very tactically. For example, you can not wait to use a vehicle for an ultimate attack. Instead, the player Star Wars Battlefront E3 Screen 1_Force Push WMwho runs over a freshly spawned power up jumps into the vehicle and starts to shoot. Instead of clever tactics the force supports random luck.

Battlefront offers 12 maps to play on, 16 maps will be restocked with the upcoming paid DLCs, but in the two modes we talked about, we can only play four of that. That is really sad. We also can play 6 up to 9 smaller maps that are made for the other gameplay modes and do not have special requirements on how the map’s layout has to be. We do not understand, why they did not offers small versions of the large maps, too, like they did for example in Battlefield 3.

What we like is that the maps are not only optical offers variations. You can also use the maps tactically. On the Star Wars Battlefront Modus Vorherrschaft 01snow-planet Hoth we fight in a desert with not a lot cover opportunities. The jungle on Endor is perfect for ambushes. And the jagged rocks on Sullust offer good ways to flank enemies.

Unfortunately, we can not modify our character like in the previous Battlefront games. That means that DICE did not include features that could offer much more interesting battles. We can only modify the equipment of our soldiers by using so-called star cards. This allows us to get special weapons like grenades and sniper rifles, to use the very helpful Jetpack or to allow passive bonuses. Unfortunately, we missing true specializations.

The selection of your weapon is nearly similar. We unlock eleven Blaster by achieving a new rank, but unfortunately, with a few exceptions such as the Shock Blaster, which is great weapon for the close
Star Wars Battlefront Modus Jaegerstaffel 02combat, we think that the weapons feels to much similar.  And yes, that could kill the motivation to get new weapons because every unlocked weapon feels like my standard Blaster.

The next sad thing, team play is not supported in this game. No mechanics reward any interaction. There are no ammo boxes or even first aid kids to revive fallen comrades. Not even a voice chat or the known Command Function from Battlefield. Instead of organized squads we only get a player as a partner, with whom we enter into the game and its star cards we can use. That’s it. Star Wars: Battlefront is a team shooter without teams. Here is everyone fighting for himself.

The result: Battlefront is a shooter with such a lot of potential that DICE did not used. But this does not mean that Battlefront is a bad game but it is not enough content for a shooter that costs 60 Euro or more. Star Wars Battlefront is a shooter to play it one or two hour in the evening if you have some free time. Start the game, have fun. And you get something, not much, but something for your money. Battlefront is trimmed to be completely beginners friendly, and the plan works out. Within a short time we find our way into the game Star Wars Battlefront Modus Jaegerstaffel 04and we had a lot of fun from the first minute. And the mechanics that DICE has included into the game working very well. unfortunately, we have to say that this game is not the right thing for real shooter enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, we have to say that we have never played a DICE shooter that did not go very deep on what it includes. That mean, there are no specific classes, no ways to select a spawn-point, we are missing the interaction with our teammates, we miss a lot of vehicles which are located on the map and not are available as Power Ups. Some say, that there are happy that Battlefront is not a Battlefield with a Star Wars theme. We say, that we wished that DICE, who made Battlefield would take it as an example. We are happy, that Battlefront is not a next Battlefield, but if you have the basis beside you, you are using it especially if it works. And if you compare the old Battlefront game with the Battlefield games, you get the Star Wars Battlefront _4-17_Vaderresult that it was nearly the same. On the one hand we are missing a lot of things, but on the other hand, it is an action packed shooter that works fantastic. We had goosebumps after the intro music started and in our first multiplayer battle we have sang the Darth Vader theme for about the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately, we noticed that we do not get the motivation to play a lot more to unlock new Blasters. We think that Battlefront 2 is still the best Star Wars shooter because, if you do not look at the technical parts, Bettlefront 2 includes a lot of more content. We hope that DICE and EA will change it with the upcoming DLCs, but we think that content that already should be in the game should not cost additionally.

But there is also another side of the coin. DICE also surprised us from time to time. We’ve never seen a DICE game that has been released that runs so great from the very beginning. Battlefront has no weaknesses, no noticeable balance problems and even the network code, which is Frostbite Engine’s biggest problem works very well. This game works! And we had a lot of fun with it. The different gameplay-modes, the weapon handling up to the clever laminating load times, everything is well and DICE has been thinking very well about everything and implemented it perfectly. Players can not be resistant against the fabulous atmosphere of Battlefront. Star Wars: Battlefront is visually and acoustically highly impressive. We had especially the feeling of being a part of the action if we played the 40 players modes. We love it that Battlefront is not to difficult for beginners, it is fast, looks fantastic, it makes a lot of fun and, let’s be honest, IT’S STAR WARS!
